Our Story

Sam and Nicole met in February of 2022 on the dating app Hinge, where Sam liked a photo of Nicole in a pink sequin pantsuit. They quickly bonded over their love of art: Nicole as a designer and musician and Sam as a filmmaker. They had their first date on Valentines Day, which happened to be their only free evening that week. Nicole figured it would be an easy anniversary to remember at best, or a funny story at worst.

Sam initially loved her instinctual dedication to her community – the importance of her family, her friends, and bettering the world around her. Nicole loved how much Sam liked to bring people together and plan events, often with nothing to celebrate other than just getting together!

They got to know each other on dates to museums, oyster bars, music venues, and dive bars. They made each other laugh and found it easy to have thoughtful conversations with one another.

Over talks, adventures, and sharing new experiences, they were quick to find love! They both have a deep love of food and found many new restaurants to try. Their love of art had them at Broadway shows and movies regularly. They rekindled their love of travel together, exploring domestic locales like Des Moines, New Orleans, Chattanooga, and Birmingham, and international cities like Stockholm and Copenhagen. They always found something to look forward to!

The proposal

Sam let Nicole know that he had tickets to see Cabaret on a Friday evening. Before they left for the show, Sam “went to go get a package” from downstairs of their Brooklyn apartment, where he then “forgot his keys” and called Nicole to be let back in. When Nicole opened the door, she was surprised to see Sam on one knee! 

She said yes, but that was not the end of the surprise! On their way to the subway, Sam pulled Nicole into a nearby bar, where waiting for them was a crowded room filled with local friends and Nicole’s family! The night was filled with love, laughs, and excitement for the future.
